Michael Humphries Biography
Michael Humphries is a photojournalist with 30+ years of experience in the field of journalism. In addition to this, he also has great expertise as well as expert skill level in visual storytelling. Through these, Michael has become a renowned TV journalist and has garnered several awards to back this up.
He currently leads the photography and multi-skilled journalist staff at KENS as the chief photographer for the channel. In addition, he has also coached several other photojournalists, editors, and reporters at other places he has worked at as well as at other stations across the whole of North America.
Michael Humphries Early Life
Michael was born and raised in the Kenedy, a city in the Karnes County of Texas in the United States. Since he started his career as a journalist, he has acquired over 200 awards for many of his works in, out, and around journalism and media. He studied at the Texas State Technical Institute from 1985-87. He took on the campus’ Associate of Applied Sciences, Audio Visual Production course.
Michael Humphries Career
Early Career (1986-1990)
Michael started off in the US Army/Texas Army National Guard as a 19E20/19K20 Armor Crewman/Non-commissioned Officer. He worked in the role from late 1986 to October of 1993. Later, he took on a role as a News Photographer / Chief Photographer at KVCT/Victoria Communications. She worked there from June 1988 to July 1990 based in the Victoria, Texas area.
He also joined KBTX Media as a News Photographer/Chief Photographer around the time he left KVCT. While at KBTX, he covered local news stories and led and trained the photography staff in the Bryan College Station in the Texas area. In October 1993, Michael Humphries left this role and joined KSAT 12 TV as a Photojournalist based in the San Antonio area of Texas. He left the role in October 1997, around the time he became a Photojournalist/Producer for KENS-TV.
Along the way, he started working for Powerimaging and Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre as a Live Camera Operator in San Marcos, Texas. He started working there from March 2001 to late 2007. By mid-2012, Michael Humphries’ role at KENS was promoted to the senior photographer. With this, he also assisted the News Operations Manager in running the photography department in addition to his other roles.
In 2015, Michael Humphries took on two roles. First, he started taking on roles as a freelance camera operator at XI media operators. Next, his position as a senior photographer at KENS was promoted to the chief photographer. At XI, he captures/streams creative content and music videos. Whereas at KENS, he manages both the photography and editing departments as well as providing support and guidance for the multimedia journalists.
