Strait is also known for his touring career, he designed a 360- degree configuration and introduced festival style tours. The Strait tours earned him $99 million in three years. In June 2014 his AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas concert drew 104,793 people, marking a new record for the largest indoor concert in North America.

In the 1970s during his college years, Strait joined Stoney Ridge, a country band who at the time was looking for a vocalist. He renamed the group ‘Ace in the Hole Band’ and soon enough became the lead. The band performed at different honky-tonks and bars around South and Central Texas, traveling as far east as Huntsville and Houston.

The band recorded several Strait-penned singles including “That Don’t Change The Way I Feel About You,” and “I Can’t Go On Dying Like This” for the Houston-based D label. However, the songs never achieved wide recognition, and Strait continued to manage his family cattle ranch during the day in order to make some extra cash.
