The area was filled with dead bodies. He lived like this for the first year of the war after his father died in the chaos. Never to see him again. On the flipside, Walker’s mother is living with Alzheimer’s.

First, in 2012, Walker joined CNN as an anchor for CNN International. In this role, she distinguished herself among the top breaking news anchors having reported on some live major international news stories, without a script for hours on end.

As the network’s correspondent, Walker covered the 2021 Atlanta spa massacre as well as the ensuing outcry from the Asian-American neighborhood against the rising hate and racist incidents led by misplaced blame for the Covid-19 pandemic and also Donald Trump’s rhetoric. Walker anchored CNN’s coverage of the lasting humanitarian and political crisis in Venezuela, and the large-scale protests against a controversial extradition bill in Hong Kong in June 2019, helming CNN’s rolling coverage of protesters storming the municipality Legislative Council building in June 2019. In April 2019, Walker was also reported live as a fire ripped through Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Having been the permanent news anchor and correspondent on CNN, Walker’s major live events include the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 and the referendum in Crimea, which led to Russia’s annexation of the Ukrainian region; the historic double canonization of John XXIII and John Paul II; the South Korea Sewol ferry disaster; the death of Ariel Sharon; the 2015 deaths of Singapore’s founding father Lee Kuan Yew and Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah; the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016, the 2017 La Rambla van attack in Barcelona; France and the Berlin Christmas market in 2016 and the truck terrorist attacks in Nice.

Walker was also reported live as security forces stormed Kyiv’s Independence Square, which eventually led to the crisis in Ukraine. She led CNN’s initial coverage of the Ottawa shootings at the Canadian Parliament which was simulcast on both CNN and CNN International in 2014. Walker was selected for an Emmy award due to breaking news coverage of the Manchester Arena bombing attack during an Ariana Grande show in 2017. Besides, Walker delivered updates on Anderson Cooper’s AC360’s “360 Bulletin.”

Walker was formerly in Chicago, working as a news anchor and general assignment reporter at WFLD. During that time, she covered the 2012 U.S. presidential election, from President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign headquarters. In the same year, she also covered the Chicago teachers’ strike that closed down the public school system for 8 days. Furthermore, Walker took part in numerous reports on the violence afflicting the south side of Chicago.

Before moving to Chicago, Walker spent 7 years as a weekend evening news anchor and general assignment reporter at WTVJ in Miami. While there, she covered significant national and international stories such as the 2010 governor’s race in Florida; the 2006 NBA championship; the 2012 Florida Republican primary; and the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden.

In the summer of 2005, Walker was live on-air reporting New Orleans and Mississippi as Hurricane Katrina was bearing down on the South. After the earthquake hit Haiti in the wake of 2010, she moved to the country to cover the devastation.
